Steel Magnolia Wisdom

Living southward when Spring descends is utterly heart wrenching!.....in the most divine way.
Living southward has taught this girl what it means to be a Steel Magnolia!.....charmed, I'm sure.

Spring flowered trees are drenching us with their magnificent radiance and the Carolina Jessamine is a bloom.  This yellow vine beauty grows rampant, playing our heart strings with its old south song - hooking our noses with a wild and wicked sweetness. DH begs me to gather this "scent of the south" nectar for my perfumes.

While perusing the www.internet, I discover that oil of Carolina Jessamine (Gelsemium sempervirens) has been used as a perfumery material.  On the same page, I also discover that  Gelsemium sempervirens is toxic.  Every part of this plant is poisonous.  (Of, course, the veracity of the above information is subject to whether you believe everything you read on the internets - lol).

I'll error on the side of good sense and leave the use of Carolina Jessamine to perfumers who are far deeper risk takers than I.  No gathering or use of Carolina Jessamine....I'll adore it loveliness from afar.

With the arrival of Spring, changes are happening - in the art - in the perfumery - in our lifestyle. Happily existing as gypsies in our rolling coach has a shaping effect. Determining what's necessary is primary.  We further cull the chaff and expunge associations that negate the good.  In other words, so long to the un-used stuff (of the past year) and goodbye to you sad-pants naysayers!

We're excited to tell you, Exotica Perfumery is now the exclusive sales venue for our perfumes.  Business at our website has increased to a point where we no longer have need of a middle sales man.  A huge thank you to our new and repeat clients who have helped us arrive!                                         YOU ROCK!!!    ....and we adore you!

Even more exciting - coming soon, the launch of two luxurious new perfumes.  Deep Purple Rain and Sweet Grasse. Selections from our Noir Perfumes Collection will also be arriving at Exotica Perfumery.

As for becoming an honorary Steel Magnolia, I'll leave you with the wise words of a daughter of the south.....

"With enough courage, you can do without a reputation."  and  "I don't give a damn, my dear."

Blazing Georgia Peaches!

September 8, 2011

Threw caution out the kitchen window yesterday!

Turned my domesticated womanery area into a fruit jam laboratory while brewing up a delectable mess of juicy sweet peaches infused with Meyer Lemon Blossom Tincture and Sweet Orange Tincture (two alcohol based maceration created for my natural perfumes).  To this experimental recipe I added a handful of vinegar drunken - chopped jalapeno peppers.

The resulting delish taste is a "blow the lid off the jam" fest!

Food safe tinctures and food safe...

Farking Spots and How They Relate to Perfumery

August 19, 2011

Discovery of the day:  I have been snarked by a farking spot!

For many reasons, this has been a summer to remember.
No - not a summer of first love (although I have fallen in love with several southern locale perfume plants).
Nup - not a lazy, hazy daze summer (it's been work-work-work nonstop - wipe my brow and go on to the next project).

Nor has it been a 'rrrrghita' summer (only one bonafide tequila margarita has actually passed over my lips).

This has been a summer o...

Queen of the Night - Perfume Flower

July 3, 2011

What a lucky girl, am I...    to enjoy a personal relationship with the natural world.  The opportunity to experience in their wild habitat, many of the tinctured aromatics that I add to my perfumes is a part of my life that I completely treasure.

Spr
eading its wicked and lovely perfume throughout my present southern stay place is a huge mound of wild night blooming jasmine.  This naturalized jasmine grows unhampered, reaching out its arms 40 to 60 feet beyond the 10 foot ...

The Sweetened Life of a Perfumer

June 25, 2011

Almost asleep.....now up and wide awake.  It's 1:30am.  Thank you night blooming flower!

The summer warmed scent of an indole laden night bloomer has reached my bedroom window....I'm reacting with all the ardor of a night flying moth. Tomorrow night - out I go to search for this beauty with flashlight and flaring nostrils.   Such is the life of a natural perfumer.

Natural perfuming never ceases to amaze me.  I've been working on a blend with hay notes....tried the new perfume on my skin today and there is a faint, not quite, but almost chocolate aroma surrounded by sun filled fields of dried hay. Nope - no choco perfumery materials involved and a simple blend of only eight luscious aromatics.

"Lace" Perfume

May 19, 2011

Sweet, sexy and smart. This romantic perfume is a wonderful thank you from brides gifting their bridesmaids and wedding helpers.

This perfume is fresh with a variety of delicate citron essences, imbued with citrus flower and green leaf extraits. This perfume is embraced by the powdery love kiss of orris, extracted from the beautiful iris.

One satiny white pearl and a bit of Venice Lace adorn the frosted glass heart bottle with 9...

The Life of a 1920s Vanity Tray

May 19, 2011

While cruising through a favorite antiques/second hand store many years ago, I found this beautiful little bejeweled metal tray.  Always a fan of vintage metal work and ornate stylings, I knew this was a treasure.  I grabbed up the precious tray, completely thrilled with the find.

Over the years this tray graced my antiques filled homes in various ways, sometimes holding little glass bottles filled with single florets of whatever was in bloom.  Sometimes, residing o...

New Perfume Pendants Are Here

May 19, 2011

I've added two new perfume jewelry styles, to our Perfume Jewelry Collection, today.  The Tender Teardrop Necklace with a small metal scrollwork pendant in locket form.  It's feminine and dainty, but large enough to hold a felted perfume disc and suspends from a silver plate link chain with lobster claw clasp. A tiny delicate opalite faceted teardrop sparkles quietly next to the pendant.

Our perfume jewelry is a great choice for perfume lovers who have ultra-sensitive skin.  Alt...
